I love this programme and think the contestants are wonderful. However, I will never understand how Jen was sent home instead of Leah. Jen’s Indian trousers were perfect and the judges said just that. They were made in silk, not an easy fabric, but totally suited to this type of garment. Liah’s trousers were a mess. When she accidentally joined up the wrong pieces, instead of unpicking them, she just cut the seam off, making one trouser leg narrower than the other. The pleating was uneven and the garment didn’t fit the mannequin. To be fair her transformation garment was good. Jen’s was also good, a lovely little pair or shorts and top but Esme just didn’t like it. I thought it got unfair criticism. As for the Japanese blouse, Liahs didn’t even look Japanese and Jen was judged on her choice of fabric creasing easily, despite making a very complicated garment, which only needed ironing. I’m surprised that Liah even got to the final with all the mistakes she made, on one occasion just abandoning her first attempt because she hadn’t read the instructions properly and hadn’t put the stiffening on the back of her material before cutting out the pieces but instead of cutting out the stiffening needed she just went a got another lot of material. What a terrible waste. She should have gone before Janet and possibly Mercedes. Well, that’s my rant over. My sister-in-law says I should apply to go on the programme but I couldn’t stand the stress and the newfangled machines would be totally alien to me. Also I am used to pins and scissors rather than stones and a “pizza” cutting wheel. May I suggest that when the programme goes back in time for a week, contestants have to use everything available at that time, not just the machines! Wendy Clover.
