I visited 12 Wangara Cres Queanbeyan NSW (coming up in March 2019 for an episode) yesterday to see in REAL LIFE what they actually do and the quality of workmanship on these shows.
I was very disappointed in the quality of workmanship.
Firstly painting: internal painting, cutting in to cornices not straight, Outside painting half finished, only painted the walls (how many coats were done?) no eves/fascias painted, cedar windows not painted, no gap filler for joints, painted over holes without filling first etc, etc, etc.
Painting of the boards above carport front door, only painted the front facing the street, the top edges were not painted and they are rotten, 1 minute to paint top edge without fixing rot to at least stop further rot.
The water heater outside was tilting off the wall because the concrete slab on the ground was sinking, eventually will have major issues. 5 minutes to fix properly
House number siting on the ground at front door???? I assume forgot to fix back on wall???
Secondly layout and design: in one bedroom TV on side wall cannot be seen from bed. There was plenty of room on opposite wall if the bed box was removed. TV in lounge room way too far from sofas (TV too small for distance). Butlers pantry way too big and should have been the same width as the kitchen to give more room for the living area. The laundry? well what a disaster, in the bathroom with timber louvres hiding it and sitting on the floor in a wet area. Not much to make it respectable.
No shower screen/curtain on shower in bath???? who was thinking???
Thirdly kitchen: All door handles missing on cupboard doors on the underside of the main kitchen bench facing into the living room (I had to grab each door from near the floor to open them plus the doors did not have soft close hinges like the rest of the kitchen.)
I know you have your budget ??? but some things don't cost much to do it properly.
Fourthly outside: The safety sign for the pool is up the back near back boundary fence, cannot be seen or even read and cannot get to it safely, should have been at the pool entrance gate. To get to the legal steps to step into the pool is very precarious at the back of the pool, a small modification to the sleepers to make it safe should have been a priority as also the sign.
NOTE: Who ever came up with the idea of a dozen pillows on beds and sofas that have to be removed every time you want to go to bed or sit down on a chair. Where do you put them, on the floor? (must have been a pillow manufacturer).
Sorry time has run out for me, I have plenty of other observations...... (this was from 15 minutes viewing onsite)
This has shown me a great deal about these types of shows by looking in person as to what is actually done:
QUALITY cannot be seen on a TV screen, you need to look in person, MOST IMPORTANT.
Imagination is mostly copying others ideas, colours, pillows???, greys,greys....., house styling (how much did the house styling cost ?, could have been spent on fixing the side timber deck that is rotting and falling apart)
Prioritising the dos and don'ts, eg. half doing a paint job doesn't make it look better.
I am waiting for the replies.
Thanks John
