I really liked this film. I didn't know it was a play first. That explains the single setting. If you want action this is not your movie. It is all dialogue. I am white so I can't talk from the perspective of an African American. I do understand where the mother was coming from and the fear she felt, but her son made some really stupid choices (for whatever reasons) and was hanging out with the wrong crowd. He and his friends weren't pulled over for being black or even for having an antagonizing bumper sticker. One of the kids broke the law and they all made the situation worse by getting out of the car. I don't think the cop would have acted any differently if the kids had been white. Why any of the kids (they weren't kids actually. They were between 18-20) thought it was ok to get out of the car is beyond me, whether they were African American, white, or purple!! Good way to get hurt if you ask me. Cops have also been known to get shot at traffic stops, so I get why they may be wary if someone was to get out of the car while being told to sit tight.
