It was disappointing to say the least. I'll try not to spoil the movie if you have not yet watched it. This review is from some one who grew with the franchise and an actual programmer. I will however have to spoil some from the first movies in order for you to understand where my disappointment comes from.
THE SENSE 8 CAST
Lana Wachowski, the director from Matrix resurections was also the director for Sense 8, in this Netflix show 8 people with supernatural powers were able to communicate and share their lives with each other, but why am I talking about Sense 8? Well, 4 of those 8 characters participated in Matrix and worked with the main characters to develop the plot of the movie. In addition, the camera work seemed to have been transferred from Sense 8 to this new installment of The Matrix.
Now, this may be nothing at first and could be quite fun, but this concatenation of characters can make you beleive that you are watching an installment of Sense8 instead.
NEO (ONE)
The main character in the Matrix trilogy, The One that we call Neo was the character where the whole show revolved around, the trilogy were focused on the development of this character, how he was born, grew as the one and died as Neo, the one. If you think hard on these movies you'll see that there is no range to extend his storyline, that's why on the 3rd installment he and trinity should've die. The purpose was to free Zion and brings peace, and the objective was achived, but somehow on the 4th installment we find his "Resurection". Yes it does seems corny and you'll feel identified specially if you see the Trilogy.
THE TONE
On the first movie the story is about Mr. Anderson, a programmer tired of the cyclonic living with nonsense existance, many would feel identified with an 9 to 5 job with a living cycle of work, eat sleep until he meets a "white rabbit". The tone used to show these sad feeling was a grey, green tone and this tone remains over all the trilogy and it only changes when Neo is out of the Matrix, the the tone is changed to a dark blue. These are characteristics of the saga that were not passed along to Matrix 4.
COCLUSION
If you can well see it now, Matrix does not seemed a continuation of the trilogy, far from it the new installment looks like a new season for Sense8 that no one asked for, the plot of 5his movie never fit and with all honestly it seems like it was rushed and not well funded.
