I thought it was formulaic, and self-indulgent.

I was so excited to watch Dune that I saw it on the UK's largest screen, which is an IMAX on the opening day It was very good, but not the amazing film I was expecting. I can't put my finger on why. Interestingly, I went again three days later, this time with my family, at the same cinema, and it was indeed the amazing film I was expecting. Strange
