The expectations of what a movie will be like based on what was previously written by, and the genre in which a director has enjoyed success during his career has been completely turned on its head in the “Joker,” which was the most appealing aspect of this cinematic masterpiece. The casting of Robert DeNiro, who has marred his brilliance of days past by the ostentatiousness and formulaic renditions of the characters he has recently played during the twilight of his career, helped to further the misleading nature of the film. Most of the reviews have praised the performances of the actors cast but have dismissed the story due to the lack of any joy from the script, but this observation by those who call themselves professional critics must have missed the scenes injected with doses of humor to counter the general violence and hostility in the movie. Listen to the soundtrack and watch Joaquin Phoenix as he dances in joyous celebration of the dual nature of a character that was initially introduced without the hindsight of how he became the villain presented in a comic book created to entertain juvenile audiences. In the end, the value of any motion picture is based on whether a moviegoer had an enjoyable theatric experience and for me that is why the “Joker” is worth the price of admission alone.
