I don't understand all the hate they're getting for the first episode. Sure the cameraman could have helped with his own car lights, but was it his responsibility to put himself in danger to do so? Self-preservation kicked in and he assumes the person was out of the car (from his interpretation of the radio call). He even talked about how dangerous it'll be if the person tries to walk their way across the highway.
He knew the probability for a story was high regardless; because... terrible drivers. So he arrives on the scene of a stalled car in the middle of the highway. And when the situation turned for worse, he was able to overcome his self-preservation.
So what are we doing? Persecuting him for being human? Pretending we would have all done better? I don't understand the self-righteousness, I never do. Why don't we let people be imperfect and help them grow from it.
[Once the car's hazard lights shut off, I clutched my chest waiting for the inevitable, and still hoping it didn't happen. As I watched, I also asked myself what I would have done? I know what I would like to do, but would I actually have been brave enough to do?]
My gripe with this show is that although it shows a (sometimes predatory) business that I've never thought to be curious about, not all the camera crew are in it for much more than the search for an adrenaline rush, so the viewers of the show are not gaining as much (hence it sometimes feels distasteful). So I'm not too surprised theres not been another season.
However, I typically appreciate Zak's (and even Howard's) perspective, and Scott might be my least favorite person on the show. I'm hoping for more seasons, with a better plot.
