For the average LGBT+ or Ally movie-goer, this film may initially strike you as too quiet and subtle. This is far from the truth.
Instead, what strikes us is how far removed it is from everything typically associated with being gay: Cities, high-society, art, theatre, music (only 2 scenes are scored).
Instead, it is a story told in visceral touch. It is dirty, physical, angry, longing and raw, unfiltered sensuality. It is unusual for LGBT+ cinema in being unapologetically male in its subject and audience and may be difficult for straight people to watch. But the intensity is its truth and I believe it is an essential film for understanding the gay male experience.
For all these reasons and more I think it may be one of the most moving love stories on film. Highly recommended.
