As for the one star reviews, the plot and themes went over their head.

This is just a fun formulaic action film, it is like a Mission Impossible or any Jason Statham film. If you notice the negative comments and critics widely come from men, however these same men will tell you how aMaZinG Fast and the Furious or The Bourne Identity was. This film is watchable and is like every other action movie you have ever watched, the only difference is the cast is all female. If you did not like this film then maybe you just do not like action films? If you had a male cast do this exact story, men would be gobbling it up.
