Lady Bird is different from many other movies I have seen. Each scene flips by quickly, as if we are trying to skip through the main character’s life. Every scene has some type of meaning or theme to it, no matter how small. A common theme throughout the film is a type of innocence or naiveness, which is consistently displayed by the character Lady Bird through her many actions. Her fear of having sex for the first time, or the fact that she falls in love too quickly, are all factors that pile in to this theme, mixed with her never ending stubbornness. This film felt very entrancing to watch, not exactly in the way where one is entertained, but in a way where one can’t look away. In all, it has a very surreal feel to it at times, and yet also has a realistic aspect. Lady Bird’s desire for attention and acceptance leaves a very real comparison to teenagers of our day and age and the struggles that they face. Although this film has been able to reach out and connect to a younger audience, it does not effectively entertain the watcher, and can come across as boring. Even with this, Lady Bird’s main qualities are a great reflectance of today’s future society. It teaches a great moral code in the end, and has consistent and deep themes throughout.
