PBS NewsHour is my main source for information delivered without excessive drama, impending doom background music, and blood red inflammatory banners scrolling by. So it pains me to report that I think I'm noticing a downward trend.
To me, "news" is a telling of what happened. Asking pundits what they think will happen in the future is "fortune telling." Asking anybody what they think another person is thinking is "mind reading."
I'm sensing more and more time occupied by fortune telling and mind reading. Surely in this crazy world there is enough actual hard news (plus the occasional feature story or editorial opinion) to fill the broadcast time. Why do you send me so many guesses and hunches?
