First of all, I would give this movie a generous two stars. The movie had cool graphic, CGI motion, cool mech (like TitanFall) and AI stuff something (Dimension W anime), but overall, the plot is subpar, while the main downfall of the movie is of course, and obviously, the main character. I get it that she had a very tragic past, but I do found her to be somewhat hypocritical as well.
She claims to hate AI, but somehow she still uses AI for her daily life like playing chess, making coffee, cleaning the floor, help her set her schedule, open her housedoor, etc. Plus it does not help the whole entire plot that she whines a lot and curse a lot which is quite annoying, to be frank.
In addition, the entire whole movie plot just centered around the mc and I also find that now movies that always centered around one character especially woman are downright bad. What is the main motive the movie is trying to reach to its audience? Women independence, empowerment and strength as usual??
And also, I find the military strategy in this movie as expected of Hollywood to be abysmal, dumpster fire as well as downright appalling. You can build a fancy space station defense, but you only can afford to sent just one space battleship to chase after the most dangerous terrorist which had the capability like Skynet (Terminator)?? I am no military strategist expert, but shouldn't you at least sent multiple ship escorts like USA did around their aircraft carriers squadron??
Furthermore, one of the most basic military rule when you are in an expedition in a hostile territory is always sent in your scouts out to scout for dangers, whereabouts of your enemies, terrain, etc. Information, both you and your enemy is power in military warfare. Without these, you would lose if you got all that awesome mechs, elite troops and one battleship. You are doomed to fail regardless.
