The movie goes too slow, especially the first 20 minutes. The storyline is not well structured so as to create an atmosphere of interest. The dog stuff is taking too much importance. Naomi Watts prestance is fine but not convincing due to the story. Bill Murray ( a great actor) seems to be in the clouds and his acting without real feelings. In conclusion the film is boring and not very successful. However I respect those who are giving 5 stars to this movie, apparently films and books are always like mirrors of people, and each human being has a different experience on life matters. But overall why spending so much energy, money and time for such subjects, while our world is full of so many essential quests.

Very far of Agatha C. stories that have a good chronology and structure. Kiera K. performance is (as always) quite good. The lack of substance is elsewhere. People are not well defined and remain incoherent in their behavior. Context is lacking enough frame for the subject. Many sounds and events that lack real coherence. Pity. It could have been interesting but unfortunately it is not.

I believe that this is a very good film. You find with great sensibility the atmosphere of the book. Social issues are also very well presented and the Gogol story is so representative of the psyche of these immigrants . Certainly in Gogol you can find these universal links within different cultures and civilisations, a mirror of desires and aspirations.

The scenario/story is average. Alex Sharp as well. As for Keanu Reeves it is not at all a role for him. Dialogues are weak. The only good thing about this film is the presence of Lily Collins who has a real pleasant presence. But really no use for these kinds of films that present almost no interest, even aesthetics and photography are average. A quite commercial common film, much money involved for what…? with no whatsoever idea. Everything is slow without any atmosphere. The director I think must review some films of Antonioni to feel what can create grasping atmosphere even through silences and absence of dialogues.

Quand Christian Clavier est dans un film on est sur de passer un bon moment tellement il est bien, naturel et super charismatic. J’aime aussi assez Sylvie Testud, son interprétation de Françoise Sagan était top. Dans un monde si sérieux, si matérialisé, si rationnel, de tels films sont des bouffées d’air frais, même si les scénarios sont bien loufoques. Alors vive Christian Clavier, après de Funès il est vraiment the best. Merci.

I like the English (cold) atmosphere well presented. John Ruskin character in the film is not at all exploited, it remains flat and we cannot really evaluate the consistence of his personality. The main lady Effie Gray has not whatsoever facial expression, it is not a matter to remain sober and austere, there is no charisma in her playing which remains dull and boring. The different romances (with the Italian or the English) has no mental or social dimension, it goes too fast and too easy to persuade the authenticity. Emma Thomson as usual is very good, unfortunately her character is coming and going to fast. I would give an overall 6 to 10. Sense and sensibility was far a better movie. DD
