This is a soap opera set in space and the writing and direction make it uninteresting and unbelievable. Hilary Swank’s character, the commander of the space capsule, would never have been chosen as a commander by NASA. She constantly suffers from angst and anxiety and does a terrible job as a commander. Also, this program is one episode after another of pathos. And pathos of the most predictable and pitiful kind imaginable. When tension is tried to be injected into the story it is totally unbelievable. You’ve been conditioned to expect nothing but miserable stories about all of the characters so the tension is out of place. Further, every episode that is supposed to be exciting, has its problems solved by some ex deus machina event. I can’t remember seeing any series or movie that had someone crying in this many scenes. This project has multiple characters crying in far too many scenes for sci-fi drama.
