I really like this film. And for me it deserves more praise than the hate it's getting.
Yes, the dialogue and even the narration can be a bit cheesy. But the use of this trope, as well as other, felt fitting in this film.
The pacing can be a bit off and the beginning feels off. Once the first part is done the movie finds its footing thanks to the seeds planted in the opening part.
The cinematography might not be the best. Still, it reminded me of classic movies like Carey Grant's North by Northwest (despite having few more outstanding frames than this one).
Lastly, I read someone critiquing the film noir aspects of the film being too tied to the emotional elements. For me they work and differentiate this film from many others in the genre. Where in many others the emotional elements are sidelines and the women are left as a side quest. It felt nice to see the story use Rebecca Ferguson's character be the inciting event of the story. Without her presence the movie wouldn't work. And seeing Hugh Jackman's character emotional conflict play out was a blast. As well as other characters who are victims of their longing.
