There are not many TV series where women take a back seat, but this is one of them. 16 episodes of bro relationships in prison between cell mates, and prisoners with the prison guards. Incredibly well acted by the entire cast, they takes us through a range of human emotions as we get a glimpse of what it must be like to be 6 in a small cell 24 7, and locked in a place with some really wicked folks.
The storyline is simple - a star baseball player is incarcerated for assaulting his sister’s attacker {attempted rape} and is found guilty of use of excessive force. The series follows Kim Je Hyeok, his supporters, his cell mates, his guards, and his enemies as he goes through his time in prison, till he returns to the mound. The little vignettes of each of the characters is entertaining, heartwarming, and sometimes frustrating, all at the same time.
If you enjoy a heartwarming story with deep character development then this one is for you. You’ll learn to laugh and cry with the characters as they go through each of their joys and hardships, and be left with a longing for more when the series one.
Congratulations to the director and cast of Prison Playbook. A very fine series indeed!
