Creepshow 2 is OK but really not as good as the original. It lacks the comic-inspired aesthetic and visuals that made the first one special in my opinion (aside from the animated scenes they sprinkled in between stories, which are alright I guess) and the featured stories feel like three separate short films rather than parts of a cohesive whole, which I think hurts this movie as an anthology film. The score is, unfortunately, nowhere near as memorable to me either, save for a few instances like when the lake blob attacks in The Raft and the zombie hiker sequence in The Hitchhiker.
Old Chief Wood'N Head is kind of a drag - the build-up makes sense for the story on its own, but it didn't do a good job at getting me hooked and eager to see what the rest of the movie had to offer like Father's Day did in Creepshow 1.
The Raft currently stands as my personal favorite of the three, because I think it comes closest to replicating the nuances that I love about the original film. The practical effects used for the lake blob's kills were particularly memorable, and the music for this particular story felt almost on par with John Harrison's phenomenal score in the first one. My only gripe is with the story's group of protagonists, as they just kinda felt like the average 80s horror movie cast to me.
The Hitchhiker was intriguing to me with how its protagonist descends into madness, and took the cake as my personal favorite at first - but over time, The Raft ended up taking that title after The Hitchhiker just sort of faded from my memory. It didn't drag on nearly as much as Old Chief Wood'N Head did from what I do remember, though, so it has that going for it at least.
Overall, although there are some redeeming qualities here and there, Creepshow 2 doesn't live up to the brilliance of its predecessor and feels more like an average 80s horror film. I think I might have gotten more overall enjoyment out of it if The Raft had been chosen as the first story in place of Old Chief Wood'N Head - it would have gotten me instantly hooked like Father's Day did in Creepshow 1 and left me wondering what kind of horrific tales could possibly come next.
