Reeves and Moss could not save this woke reboot.
I do not usually write reviews. The last time I wrote a review was for T6, so you get the point how good this movie is.
I say this movie is woke, not because Trinity gains super power in the end and saves Neo, but due to the disproportionate screen time given to promote a single character (Bugs played by Henwick). If you are a fan of Trinity like myself, expect to be disappointed since Moss only got about 10 minutes of screen time while Henwick the second most screen time. I am not biased against diversity in movies, but destroying classics for the sake of political correctness is a recipe for failure. Even the original trilogy had sufficient diversity, while all the supporting actors received similar screen time, M4 was designed to promote one actor, using our nostalgia towards the series. If you watch the movie, you might mistaken the female lead as Henwick. Hollywood made another mistake as they did in T6, marginalize beloved characters to promote wokeness. They brought back Hamilton just to kill off Connor. Now they brought back Neo and Trinity just to set up for a potential new ONE (that is why they had Bugs sync with Trinity). In fact, you have to be a minority female in order to be the ONE these days. Remember at the time T6 was to be screened, M4 was contemplating following the suit. Only because T6 failed miserably, had M4 scratched its original plot to make a new female ONE. However, the new editing could not save this movie from its woke fate.
Moments with Reeves and Moss were the redeeming/shining spots in the entire movie. Their chemistry was palpable and moving, like fine wine, matured with passage of time. The rest of the movie was forgettable, including the one they tried to promote. Moss’ performance was far superior and deserved more screen time, but the script was written by woke masters. Too bad the studio/director planned this whole movie just to set up Bugs to replace Neo and Trinity (if there is a future movie).
Weaver, Hamilton, and Moss were the definitive female action leads. If Hollywood wants to sell wokeness, they should power their brains to write new scripts, just do not destroy the classics.
The storyline was sloppy, incoherent, illogic. That is what you get when the intent was not making a great movie, but to preach woke ideologies.
Abdul was a believable Morpheus, but Groff’s Smith was not nearly as competent as Weaving’s.
I went to watch the movie to support the series, but knowing what they did to the movie, I would skip it altogether.
