When I was in middle school, I played this game on my old Nokia 2700 classic java system. The plot is that, Crash's sister, Coco Bandicoot has been kidnapped by Doctor Neo Cortex. Crash ventures through the jungle until he eventually catches up to Cortex. Cortex beats Crash the first time around and he has to travel to three islands to follow Cortex on his flying castle. Each island had a Titan to beat, pretty much bosses. The boss mechanics and stage/levels were really fun and creative. It never got old to me that I would have to beat three titans with their own elemental strengths, and once overcoming them I get their abilities. With their abilities you can enter new parts of the map and stages. If you see a really cool Kimono that can boost your power but you cant reach it because there is some weird ice door, blocking your way, you better remember where it was so you can go back to it after beating the ice titan. In order to reach these titans you had to go through a lot of 2D platforming and other creatures that were hostile, some of them were your friends but they were hypnotized by Cortex
Some downsides are that the bosses are beat the same way, but this can be a good thing because it makes u more familiar on how to beat this Titan. The 2D platforming became a bit of an annoyance in certain parts of the game.
It was a lot like a Metroidvania.
I loved the game, and I replayed it after I finished it many times. The game to me, is now a nostalgic experience. If you have any old systems that can run the game, please play it. I really enjoyed playing Crash Bandicoot: Mutant Island.
