This film is deep, thoughtful and full of beautifully filmed landscapes. The film really captures the remoteness of the ranch and the insular world of it's inhabitants. Benedict Cumberbatch's Phil is both mesmerising, cruel and deeply flawed. He is deeply repressed and angry. His spite is sometimes hard to watch but you keep hoping to see a softer side. There is a strangeness to this film that draws you in. You follow these characters through many intimate moments. This film explores the psychology of the characters. The young wraith like boy who enters the brothers world with his mum is truly enigmatic. He is both gentle and strange but his experiments hint at an inner ruthless streak. You can feel Phil's growing awareness of him. This film has a truly chilling ending. Fascinating
