Warning, if you wanted to see the book Annihilation as a film this is not it. I had just finished the book when a coworker told me about the film, I decided to watch it as I'm now reading the second book in the series. This funnily enough does not mirror the book its named after, it has moments of relation, but the Tower/Tunnel is missing, the focus is on the Lighthouse, there is no anthropologist, or surveyor. Our biologist is not the "Ghost Bird" as we know in the novel but rather quite relatable in this film. Those are just a few of the differences with this adaptation.
BUT don't let this discourage you from watching it. Although not like the Annihilation book it is a wonderful film to me. The story is fluid, the creatures that populate the world are gorgeous (if a little uncanny, once more something not seen in the book). The ending wasn't the worst thing I've seen in sci-fi, but it was kind of predictable given the "self-destruction" narrative. Overall, very good film, just not like the book.
