Loved the idea! Beautiful B/W. Malcolm the character carries the angst of Black Life. John David's interpretation of the conflicting rage and at the white-splaining of our lives our intentions, our worldview and beating back on the toxic effects of the false construct of white (in quotes) "standards" falls a bit short of authentic. Felt animated. Zendaya embodied the insecurities in Malcolm's overwhelming ego and psychological abuse.. The film takes us into uncomfortable relationship ville. How we struggle to be together, to heal.

It's Beautiful cinemotography. Plot and characters need more development but to see threads of African American Life realistically portrayed free of drugs, abuse and oppression is righteously refreshing. Our lives are rich and full and multi-dimensional in spite of oppressive backdrops. Go see the film.
