Everyone has heard about what kind of film this is. A satirical riff of horror movie tropes explained with a fun dynamic that serves a new twist on the horror genre. Plenty of references, gags, and stereotypes that paint this movie as almost a parody of older horror films.
The comedy is top notch as expected from a Whedon film (he may be a terrible person but he is a master of comedic timing), and the kills are viseral. In a satire inspired film, there are cliches to be had; but they can honestly be glazed over once you finally reach the climax of the film.
While it is not a masterpiece, it is a fantastic and absolute fun film to enjoy on a "dark and stormy night as the full moon rises."
