Plot
Saif Ali Khan as Rehan Roy, a master thief blackmailed by gangster Rajan Aulakh (Jaideep Ahlawat) into stealing the priceless Red Sun diamond from a high-security Mumbai museum.
**What Works**
- Saif Ali Khan brings his signature suave charm, and Jaideep Ahlawat is reliably menacing as the antagonist
- The film’s second half, especially the airplane sequence, injects some much-needed energy and novelty
- Direction by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal keeps the pace brisk, with a few clever heist moments and playful nods to classic Bollywood capers
**What Doesn’t**
- The plot is riddled with logic gaps and requires heavy suspension of disbelief
- The screenplay is predictable, recycling familiar genre tropes without much innovation
- Despite a strong cast, the film suffers from a weak script, cliched twists, and underdeveloped characters
- Attempts at humor and emotional depth mostly fall flat, and the film lacks the tension or unpredictability that defines great heist movies
**Verdict**
Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is a glossy but unoriginal addition to the heist genre. While there’s some fun to be had in its stylish execution and a few entertaining set-pieces, the film ultimately feels like a missed opportunity-more style than substance, and far from a must-watch
