It is a movie based on a show, and only tried to be a little more than that. If you enjoy the show, then you'll have a good time watching basically a long episode with a loosely related story.
Paula Abdul is the enemy in the weak story they're following, so it obviously doesn't take itself too seriously. You shouldn't take it seriously either. Just go and laugh at Impractical Jokers.
