As someone who already watched the Japanese live action version, this one is actually way better and more astonishing compared to the originals with a storyline that mesmerizes and gives you scares in some of its scary and gory scenes. The parasytes were very sadistic but they were surprisingly so realistic to the point that you won't know it was done through VFX edit if you don't check out the making of the drama or the behind the scenes clips. Speaking of that, the whole editing process took years to complete, respect to the crew involved in this. Furthermore, I can say that the creators were very clever to recreate a new story instead of adapting it from the manga itself. With that said, this drama has gained acclaim for its unique fusion of science fiction and horror themes. Adapted from a Japanese manga, it has become a standout in South Korean television due to its engaging storytelling and impressive visual effects. The main character's symbiotic relationship with a parasite adds depth to the narrative, reminiscent of works like "Venom" (which I've watched before) but with its own distinct twist.
The series has been praised for its ability to maintain tension and deliver a satisfying season conclusion, leaving audiences eager for more. It showcases the innovation and potential of South Korean TV production. However, some reviews suggest that while the action and visuals are remarkable, there could be further exploration of the underlying themes. Overall, "Parasyte: The Grey" has resonated with both viewers and critics, offering a captivating blend of horror, sci-fi, and drama that keeps viewers engaged throughout. Therefore, I'll talk more on the storyline of the drama with few spoilers in this review because I really love it and will include it in my super long list of favorite kdramas.
