I have high hopes for this book. As a first generation college freshman, I looked to the Mary Tyler Moore show as more than an inspiration... it was my guidance counselor, Mary first served as my role model. In my day it was not uncommon to be expected to leave the home at the magic age of 18 and then look for a husband if you didn't already have a fellow high school boyfriend in mind. I dared to think about making it on my own. When Rhoda entered the show, I was ready for her because the show helped me work up enough courage to hope that I could become confident to actually graduate from college with a career instead of a marriage! I look forward to Mary/Lou/Rhoda/Ted and hope that it at least scratches the surface of what this show meant to a woman from my generation!
I'm gonna make it after all.
