I couldn't decide whether to cry in lament of time wasted in watching this nonsense or to laugh out loud at the film's pretentious attempts at high drama and gravitas. The sets were drab and depressing rather than atmospheric and scary. Worst of all was the borderline incomprehensible dialogue delivery from the Count. Perhaps the whole thing could be salvaged by reducing it to a TV comedy sketch. Why Rotten Tomatoes decided to give this a high score is beyond me.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, it did deviate from the Austin template. I believe Austin would have had a good chuckle and be delighted by Johnson's cheeky performance.

I thought this was a very respectable young adult film. Great visual effects and decent enough acting. Why the panning from rotten tomatoes, I have no idea. It would seem anything directed or acted in by Kenneth Branagh, is immediately ridiculed, rubbished or both. Admittedly, he has made some below-par films, but he's also made some brilliant ones. This one I would consider quite decent.

The plot was bearably plausible, however, the worse thing for me was having to listen to Alison Williams' creaky voice for 1 hour and 20 minutes!

Had no idea this was reality viewed through the insane lens of bible belt American. Some comments are, to a Brit or European, beyond belief. One critic talks about all 'other' denominations such as Catholicism plus a handful of others as not being the true faith. Apparently, there is a true faith or a true reality. Lala land from beginning to end.

If you're looking for a deeply meaningful experience, then this won't be for you. If, on the other hand, you're willing to put your art critic to one side and have some giggles... A British feel-good film that doesn't tax the intellect. Loved it.
