I really enjoyed this film. As a scholar of Humanities and Art History, I found the film to be intelligent and artistic, being careful to reflect historical facts. The film did not fail to capture the romance and emotional experiences that inspired Mary Shelley, which also made the film deliciously entertaining. Sometimes the most fascinating stories are ruined by being dry. Not so in this film. I definitely recommend it to anyone who either loves literature, women’s rights, has ever been in love and lost, been abandoned or simply enjoys a great movie. Anyone who has not read the book, “ Frankenstein “, please do not assume that you know the true story by watching James Whale’s movies. Although I admire James Whale as an artist in his own right, his movies did not capture the same message that Mary Shelley originally intended. If you haven’t read “ Frankenstein “, I recommend it. If you haven’t, you will most likely still enjoy the film. However, watching the film is a much more rich experience if you know and understand the original story.
