This film is very long, considering the story is very thin. An awful lot of inflation of a predictable plot.
Excessively styled and taking a lot of historical license.
Ensemble cast with a glittering reputation but direction sees them hideously overacting, especially Day-Lewis whose attempt at a psychopathic crime boss falls flat, achieving neither intended gravitas nor black parody.
Only got a lot of nominations because it was Scorsese's but is proof that this director's best films are far behind him.
Recommend finding a better use of 3 hours, like mowing the lawn.
