Absolute overblown rubbish. How it's getting 5 star reviews is beyond my understanding.

Absolute rubbish. If you are going to make a true-story movie predominantly set in Italy and peopled by real historical Italian characters either cast it with the actors speaking Italian or speaking English with no accent. To have the actors speaking English with a heavy Italian accent is ridiculous. Over-acted schmaltz delivered with typical Hollywood sugar frosting where no attempt has been made to understand the culture, just stock Hollywood people wheeled out to play ridiculous stereotypes of what people think Italians are like. Even the racing scenes are terrible and look like Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds circa 1965. Insulting. Avoid at all costs

This film is very long, considering the story is very thin. An awful lot of inflation of a predictable plot. Excessively styled and taking a lot of historical license. Ensemble cast with a glittering reputation but direction sees them hideously overacting, especially Day-Lewis whose attempt at a psychopathic crime boss falls flat, achieving neither intended gravitas nor black parody. Only got a lot of nominations because it was Scorsese's but is proof that this director's best films are far behind him. Recommend finding a better use of 3 hours, like mowing the lawn.
