I'm a 'rusted on' fan of the show - both the UK & the Oz variants.
There is one element of the program that has always grated. This is the obsession towards the end, to find the outlay on the project. I've always viewed this a vulgar.
The point was brought home nicely in this week's episode on Richard & Denise Jones's fabulous home in the Adelaide Hills.
Peter Maddison made a couple of skirmishes through the show to get a 'bead' on the costing, but came up empty.
With time running out he made one last valiant attempt to get a number. But Richard & Denise Jones rebuffed him in a manner that was quite majestic - filled with appreciation of how the Gods had smiled on them, but absolutely adamant they would not reveal the cost.
Bravo. But also a tragedy that Richard had so little time to enjoy the masterpiece he & Denise created.
