Aretha Franklin wasn’t a very nice lady. I have trouble when I don’t like the protagonist in a movie. I don’t know if it was Jennifer Hudson’s performance that turned me off, or if Aretha Franklin was just an unlikable person. I compare it with “Lady Sings the Blues”. Even though Billy Holliday had problems, the audience still loved her. Not true with “Respect”. Also, it got very slow half way through. I couldn’t wait for this two and a half hour movie to be over.
