"A slow start to a great franchise."
Or, in the 2001 Director’s Cut,
“A 1979 movie that gets a major makeover!”
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
may be a bit of a mixed bag for me,
with it's all star cast from the tv show,
but with the boring long takes in some points...
But hey, at least the late Jerry Goldsmith's score
was the highlight for this movie!
With the iconic theme that would later be used
in the opening of: Star Trek: The Next Generation,
Goldsmith would be a Trekkie composer
until: Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002!
So, long story short,
pacing might be slow and boring,
music and visuals look great,
Star Trek: The Motion Picture is still a good movie!
6/10
But, when the 2001 Director’s Cut came out,
I did NOT expect it to be even better
than the original theatrical version!
With new visual effects,
an all new sound mix,
and it was all put together
by the original director: Robert Wise!
Now, whenever I watch Star Trek I,
I only watch the Director’s Cut from now on!
8.5/10
