I’ve watched the first two episodes. I know adaptations must deviate from their sources to accommodate the new medium, but I just don’t find the same humor, wit and pacing that draws me to Julia Quinn’s novels. The humor seems forced, the scenes overly sexy or violent or gaudy, and the atmosphere more early Georgian than 19th century despite the music (which is from when? 20th?) Sigh. And yet I will probably watch the rest anyway. To be fair, I loved the mid-1990s Pride and Prejudice, and walked out of the theater on the more recent one, with its updated language to sound more contemporary. And FWIW, i bemoan the pure adventure Star Trek movies and miss the sociological commentary of the TV series. So unless you are a fool for reading or watching things in their original form, like me, you should ignore this review.
