This show is so BAD for several reasons. First, it tried to be faithful to the source material, even involving the original creator in every casting and shot decision. Who does that? Don't they know that Hollywood has many talented writers with works that nobody has ever heard of? Why didn't they use them instead? Come on! And the result is pretty obvious - a show that doesn't resonate with modern audiences according to the standards of a failed writer.
For example, why can't Luffy be played by a white American actor in their 40s, like in The Last Airbender? Just look at how good that movie was! Another example is Nami. Why didn't they cast a black actress instead? And the way her character was portrayed is just awful. Why does the only girl in the crew have to be a thief, a traitor, and constantly need help from the male crew members? This kind of portrayal of a female character is so outdated. Why can't she be like Rey in Star Wars, who can do just about everything?
And the theme about pirates with those ridiculous character designs? It would be much better if they changed it into a high school kung fu drama, like they did with Dragon Ball Evolution.
Overall, it's a very disappointing show. I highly recommend this show to fans and non-fans of the original anime. 5/5 stars.
