Another reviewer aptly guessed that the writers of AHS Apocalypse are writing the episodes as they go. That would explain the ridiculous mood swings in the tenor of the show, i.e., from sophisticated dystopian horror to comedy sketches that fit the “Scary Movie” genre. It would also account for the introduction and reintroduction of multiple characters who were previously killed “for good,” to the point that the show has invented several levels of death and resurrection: dead for a few minutes, dead and buried, dead and in hell, and now “soul-dead” (Don’t worry! We suddenly have time travel spells that will reverse even that fate!).
The worst transgressions committed by the Apocalypse writers are the breaks in continuity between a handful of episodes. How did Ms. Venable not know that Miriam was an Android when Ms. Venable’s company (specifically, the two developers that directly work with Ms. V 20 hours a day) created and tested Miriam? If the Outposts are populated only by the billionaire Coop/Illuminati and their kin, how/why was the eugenics program implemented that brought in Timothy and Emily? How would Michael fail to recognize that the developers are manipulating him through Miriam’s guidance? etc.
AHS Apocalypse is, in a word, a mess. This season of the long-running quality anthology horror show is neither quality nor horror, and I hope that the soul of AHS is summarily disposed of (with no time travel to resurrect the show from cancellation).
