The Last of Us 2 is much like reading a choose your own adventure novel in chronological order. The story is a rambling, incoherent mess with characters introduced and removed without foresight with scenes that seem to have been to put together in a sequence directed by a random number generator. If you want an example of failure to communicate a plot, this would be my go to example. Graphics, score, and gameplay make this game tolerable - which is so sad considering how outstanding these features are.
