Movie review: GOAT
I don't even know where to begin! Was it the massive build-up over the past week, full of interviews and hype, all leading to the big opening day? Or the promise of it being Mankatha on steroids? The trailer did reel us in, but unfortunately, the movie fell short of expectations.
I usually steer clear of spoilers in my reviews, so let's keep it that way. This one's definitely tailored for Vijay fans, with nods to pop culture and his pal Ajith. Thankfully, it's not Vijay's swan song just yet; there's more to come, and the pressure's on for the next one.
Sneha and Prashant stole the show, especially the latter who managed to hold his own alongside Prabhudeva and Vijay in the dance sequences. The fight scenes were top-notch, just the right length in my opinion.
However, the film stumbled with its multitude of characters and their underdeveloped arcs. Despite attempts at twists, the storyline felt somewhat predictable. VP's claim of safeguarding the trailer's secrets was unnecessary, as there wasn't much depth to unravel.
The villains were disappointingly generic, with Mohan not given a chance to shine. That final scene? Completely superfluous. Perhaps a hopeful setup for a sequel that might never see the light of day.
Ahem, can someone please clue me in on what VP and the creative producer Archana are watching in those previews? 🤔 Maybe, just maybe, if you're a die-hard Vijay fan like me, you can overlook the flaws and just focus on the superstar himself. But for those who thrive on a diet of intellectually stimulating films, this might just be a tad underwhelming. 😄
