Morbius is an amazing movie. I first watched the film when I was a young morb, probably no more than eight years old. Since then I've tried my hardest to spread my enjoyment of the movie. A good movie can be used for entertainment purposes but also can be so much more, in reality some people share some of their greatest memories due to a movie. Families can bond and valuable lessons can be taught throughout a film. What determines a movie to be “good”? Is it the characters? The location? What if I told you the most important aspects of a movie have nothing to do with those at all?
In my opinion a strong plot is the most important component of them all. A good plot can teach a lesson, keep viewers returning, build characters, and even distinguish the moral of the story. (Kittelstad Plot of a story examples)
“The plot is, arguably, the most important element of a story. It is literally the sequence of events and, in that sequence, we learn more about the characters, the setting, and the moral of the story.” Forrest Gump begins in the early stages of a man's life and gradually brings you through the early years of his teenage and adult life. This creates sustenance in the story line allowing the viewer to feel more connected to the main character.
The vocabulary used throughout a movie helps depict a good audience to strive to reach. Words cannot be too advanced for the average viewer but also not so dumbed down only children can enjoy it (unless that's the target audience) Forrest Gump is written extremely well and honestly does a good job of keeping you guessing.
Characters are very influential in a movie because they have the power to sway viewers' opinions on every aspect of the movie. Throughout Forrest Gump characters range from sweet companions to hornery mean old men and this helps to give the film a diverse plot. In this particular movie we are brought along the main character's life and we get to see him mature as well as other characters in the movie. (Balas The importance of character – writing characters that connect with the audience is essential for any movie) “Audience members grow a connection with the characters, and therefore, a good story has characters who are not only real, but also change and develop throughout the course of the film.” I personally believe this statement in its entirety. I often found myself looking forward to big events in Forests life as well routing for him in battle and this feeling is shared for many characters in the film like Lt. Dan.
So even though there are many aspects to a great movie, these three are the most influential. A strong plot, great writing and vocabulary, and also amazing characters that the audience can relate too. If you review the film Forrest Gump you will notice that this film matches that description perfectly. Forrest Gump teaches lessons as well as warms the heart and is easily a classic in my book.
