I decided to watch a Hindi movie after a long time and I’m so glad I chose Kapoor & Sons. It’s a very well made movie. I absolutely loved the film’s handling of the theme of dysfunctional families. Tolstoy was right, “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”. I could so well relate to the Kapoor family story - sibling rivalry, parents being emotionally unavailable to their kids, and coping with the loss of a loved one. The movie portrays all of this brilliantly without being judgmental. I also liked the fact that the humour is very nuanced, especially the jokes that Tia (Alia Bhatt) cracks. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a modern family drama sans item numbers and tacky dialogues. This film will remain close to my heart.
