This novel is quite extraordinary in many ways. It weaves identity, sex, drama, religion, racism, and female coming of age themes into a well constructed who done it!
Not only does Lippman touch on the lack of female empowerment in the late 60's but she also captures the simmering politics of being a strong black woman entangled in a very white political world.
Throw in a bit of Jewish culture, add a bit of real big time newspaper grit, and you have yourself one hell of a good read.
I loved it!
