Alright, I tried. I tried really hard to like this game that I waited for. But 15 hours in? I just spent six months waiting for a game that is worse than its predecessor in every conceivable way.
Graphics? Worse. My freaking horse looks like something out of an early PS2 game. Next to nothing but empty forest, and half of that is literally just that: EMPTY forest. I might see one or two deer travelling for three days. Brilliant.
Controls? Clunkier. Eivor is far less responsive than both Bayek and Kassandra/Alexios, and reminds me of trying to play ACIII on PC. It typically takes at least ten seconds to get him to start climbing, to jump down, to get in his boat, to captain his boat... Holy hell it's bad.
Characters? Eivor isn't a character. He's literally 'Insert Male Mary Sue Here' man. He's a fighter, and he's a skald. He's okay with everything and anything, but he's honorable. He's reckless, impulsive, and hot-headed... But also a tactician, cunning, and patient. The two Assassins are boring, and I can't find myself caring about either of them enough to care about their 'twist' that's coming. The only relatively interesting one so far is Sigurd, and I'm 90% confident that's only because out of the rest of the characters, he's somewhat consistent.
The plot? What plot? Vikings sail to England, build colony. Vikings help take over England. End of plot. Like... sure, I get that there's a bunch more stuff end-game, but I legitimately can't even bring myself to care what it is, because I've spent the last 15 hours bored out of my mind, as I get to act out the History Channel's documentary on Vikings.
So I have awful graphics, clunky controls, no characters, and no plot. How did Ubisoft go backwards with this game?
