Although I would not call myself a Napoleon expert, I know enough about him to know this movie was horrible. We all know he was a narcissist, but he was also a military genius who proved his mettle at a VERY young age (perhaps a contributor to the narcissism). This movie portrayed him as an old and stoic creep with zero regard to the humans around him. It missed key points of who he was as a man, father, and leader of his men. There was ZERO hint of his charisma or humor, and provided no insight into why his troops were loyal to him.
For the movie's focus to be the relationship between Josephine and Napoleon, they screwed that up as well. Plus left out some key notes - such as the age difference, they lied about his faithfulness to her prior to her cheating, and then they showed him hitting her. Is there a record of that happening? I dint beleive there is ANY record of Napoleon hitting Josephine - especially not in during the VERY public signing if there divorce. Most importantly, they left out his relationship with her children which demonstrated his devotion to her.
It was just a horrible movie.
Oh.... and I also think this movie is an INCREDIBLE INSULT to the French and to the man - - both of whom supported this country (intended and unintended) in gaining its freedom from the British.
And one more thing.... WTH was the part about the Duke of W? They gave his role more importance and charisma than they did Napoleon. Was that a nod to our alliance with Britain vs. France - seriously... WTH?
I REALLY disliked this movie and JP should not have played Napoleon - he screwed his resume big time with this one.
