I started with EU4 and CIV 6, and had a problem breaking into the Total War franchise, but once I did, I hardly ever go back. It is just plain more fun than the other games. It has just the right amount of layers of strategy but not too tedious. Not like working on a spread sheet all day. Maps, Trade, RTS battles, Diplomacy, and the Characters (with portraits). It takes hundreds of hours to figure out how those characters can interact and in different ways. I like watching armies train, win battles and gain promotions and new and improved armor and weaponry and using specific generals to advance my political causes. The game is really well balanced and really a lot of fun.
