I have been a huge fan of the original trilogy and despite what others think, i enjoy all three of the original films equally. Even after 20 years of rewatching the original movies, i am still learning about the spiritual and mythological aspects of those movies. Even as much as i have thought about the idea of someone making a movie that brought Neo and Trinity back, by the end of Revolutions you have a Arthurian plot where Neo and Trinity surrender their lives to save the known the world. This was an amazing part of the story that i always appreciated. Now it just feels like those movies do not really matter because they are back and still fighting the same fight. I suppose in time, i will learn to appreciate this movie but honestly, i feel like this new movie was two steps forward and one step back as the original movies were always at least one step forward. I get that M4 is trying to retell a story for todays audience, but i almost would have preferred that they reboot the franchise with all new characters fighting a different battle.
