(Spoilers)
As a writer, I found the plot simply sloppy and even more so senseless. It’s also grossly clique. My brother and I found each other making fun of the movie not even half an hour in! Yes, it was rated a kid’s movie, pg, but that does not excuse poor writing. Lewis seemed to solve the blueprints problem far too easy and it made his love for that show to seem simply as if it was put in to move the plot forward. It didn’t feel genuinely thought out. I never once found myself attached to any of the characters besides Tarby, who ended up a jerk anyways. It seemed Lewis only had three unique things about him: His eight ball, his vocabulary, and his favorite show.
The actors were great, decent at worst. I love Jack Black as much as anyone else but I think his talent was wasted on this movie. Visuals were also decent. It was the writing that ruined it for me.
