When the French do a murder-slasher-mystery-thriller, they do it in style. Think Crimson Rivers. Stunning visuals, decent acting. The gore is gory. And the actors look great doing their thing. I loved Carol Bouquet as the mantis (La Mante). Pascal Demolon in his unkempt three-piece suit is another highlight. The story starts with a twist and throws up surprise after surprise as potential suspects get ruled out and promptly dispatched in a smoldering, suspenseful slow burn. Fred Testot looks unsure in the beginning, but grows into the role of the reluctant son forced to reconnect with his estranged mother. And the good guys win in the end. Definitely binge-worthy.
