An excellent fantasy alternate history that showcases what a strong female lead role can look like. Showing that women experience rage, comraderie, competitive drive for something other than male attention. While it's all against a backdrop of a world in which witches are not only real, but are integral to national defense, the subject matter and conflicts of each episode are actually modern and relatable. Terrorism both domestic and foreign, political bureaucracy vs. pragmatism, duty vs ethics; all are issues that linger in our social consciousness. Although the gut reaction is to dismiss these things because the girls are witches, I think this series is an important step in removing the stigma of what a woman "should be", and begins to normalize the reality that women have these feelings, thoughts, and motivations and it's time to give up the broad idea of "how a lady should behave". I hope to see a second season, and more series like it in the future.
