This movie tried to be intellectually sophisticated, but seems pretentious. It tries too hard.

What’s this the Canuck version of, “My Name is Earle” yuck, Not Funny.

I was 14 when this movie came out. I thought I was sooo new age and hip. Now in the year 2021 it seems provincial with its extreme sexist views and it’s glorified violence. Just a more modern set, but the same Roman, archaic barbarism.

This is an amazing homage to the 80 music and style. I loved, loved, loved it all the way through until the last boat scene., which was a little too pretentious. The rest of the movie was definitely worth watching. The songs were fantastic. U2 had a hand in making this movie a good one.

This is one of Val’s best performances. After 30 years this story is still relevant. All the performances are extraordinary and the writing is timeless.

Extreme, over the top violence. The first two Robocops are masterpieces of stop motion animation. 7 of the cyborg “Cain” were made in great, functioning detail to film this movie. Both 1 and 2 are parodies of law enforcement and corporate greed. The movies are peppered with comedic action and one liners, but story could have been better in this one. The Hobs character was horrible. It’s offensive to see a kid in a role like that. What was the point when kids shouldn’t see a movie this violent?

There are too many holes large enough to sail the Swallow through in this adaptation. Usually I love British children's literature and movie adaptations, but I did not like this one. The lead boy was snide and irresponsable. What mother, in her right mind would let her children, two being seven and nine go sailing and camping for days, when one doesn’t swim very well, with two siblings barely in their teens? I don’t care how adventurous the mother is, the children proved to be irresponsable and disobedient in the first part of the movie. Too unbelievable. You never let children out of your sight around water. It reminded me of Harry Potter and how those films encourage children to disobey and disregard common sense for the thrill of adventure. That’s what makes the world more dangerous than it needs to be for children. We have enough unruly, disobedient kids without children’s films encouraging kids to disobey their parents even more. There are safer ways to teach kids independance and adventure. As a mother it was extremely hard for me to watch this movie. Maybe the original was better.

Sad and beautiful, beautiful film.

Jemaine Clemont is always a joy to watch. Elliot Gould’s constipated power walk face is pretty darn funny.
