An incredible achievement; the coloured footage and excellent usage of archive interviews with servicemen as the film’s narrative, gave a real insight into being involved in the conflict. Peter Jackson’s intention was clearly not to sanitise the footage, rather it appears he wanted to portray snapshots of WW1 without modern bias or political comment, i.e. as seen through the eyes of men who were there and he achieved that to great effect.
I think it should be compulsory viewing in schools.
